You can easily find out the production date of your car. Locate the plate/sticker where your paint/trim codes are printed on (right hand side of engine bay(XJ from '83) or bottom of left-hand b-post (XJ40)). Right beside the trim code two letters are stamped, either on not labelled 'date of manufacture'. To decode them, use the following table:
